MINEA aims to boost the energy and water supply for the Cuanza Sul area

The Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Eng. João Baptista Borges, commenced a tour of the southern region of the nation, commencing in the province of Cuanza Sul on December 11th. He was joined by prominent individuals such as Pedro Afonso, President of the PRODEL Board of Directors, Hélder Adão, President of ENDE, Elsa Ramos, National Director of Waters, and other senior officials from MINEA and affiliated companies. Throughout the visit, a variety of projects overseen by the sector in that region were examined.

The minister’s itinerary began with an inspection of the electrification projects in southern Calulo, specifically focusing on a project aimed at providing electricity to Vila da Quibala by constructing a substation and distribution networks, benefiting approximately 5,630 residents. Initiated in January 2023, the project has reached 81% completion and is scheduled for full completion by August 2023. Additionally, attention was given to the construction of a high-voltage substation linked to the National Grid, which commenced in 2023 and is expected to be completed by the following year. This project is currently 75% complete and provides direct employment to 150 individuals. Upon its conclusion, it will serve 28 communities in the area.

Minister Baptista Borges evaluated the inactive state of the Quibala Water Supply System, emphasizing the necessity for its rehabilitation to promptly serve a population of thirty thousand. While en route to the province of Huambo, the minister observed advancements in the implementation of the initial Transformation Posts (TPs), which will supply electricity to the aforementioned communities.
